Community Grand Rounds: Acknowledging Harms | Facing Mistrust

Date:
February 9, 2023
Time:
5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. PST
Place:
Zoom (Virtual)

‘Medical mistrust’ is rooted in repeated, historical, and lived experience.  Community experts reframe their experiences as resulting in ‘earned mistrust,’ characterized as the justifiable and credible response to medical harm.  This presentation calls for personal and institutional accountability through acknowledging the role of systemic oppression in health outcome disparities.

Through video testimony and discussion with a live panel, participants will witness, reflect upon, and discuss instances of medical harm and the systematic roots that cause them.  In conversation and reflection, each person will contemplate how institutions can change and what their role, large or small, is in creating that change.
